Fixed antennas
Hey all, has anyone replaced their power antenna with a fixed, non-retractable one? The antenna in my 1990 300SE is stuck and I'm tired of hearing the power motor strain to raise and retract it everytime I switch the FM radio on and off, so I'm thinking of replacing the whole unit with a fixed antenna. Anyone have any suggestions of where to get one of these? I see APA and Hirschmann antennas for sale on various websites, but I imagine these are both power antennas.

But you could replace the mast part. Most likely the nylon part of the mast is stripped. Not difficult to replace and about 20 bucks from Rusty.

Is it easy to take out the busted antenna and install the new mast part oneself? I'm not the most mechanically inclined person.
