1980 w126 280s 4-speed manual with 4 barrel holly
W126 80 4 speed man
Hi, I have a 1980 280s manuel. Had no electronic speedo pick up on rear of gearbox and previous owner supplied a used one, have installed and speedo is still not working...any ideas? Have previously removed instrument cluster and cleaned and repaired broken dimmer, have noticed that has center plug behind speedo surrounded by a small plastic circle with what looks like plug or electronic fitting but nothing connected and no loose fittings. Do not know if anything is missing, car has had extensive work preformed by others but can get no valauble history from last owner. Car possiably orignated from South Africa.

Hi, But i have found out the cause of the problem. The sender and the speedo which are electronic have to "speak" to each other and have to be calibrated to understand and translate the electronic pulses.
This problem can occur when the speedo or sender has been changed for some reason which has happened to my merc. An instrument fitter can re calibrate them so the can now "speak' to each other.
Thank you for looking at my problem.
