Mecedes-Benz 500SE 1989
![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Help, loosing reverse gear on my W126, 1989 500SE Automatic, works OK when cold, all forward gears OK, feels like the drive is slipping in reverse, makes a whirring noise on accelerating, but little or no movement, any ideas out there, sounds expensive ?.

New filters do wonders. Around $30 for the kit. About reverse, sound like the clutch pack or reverse piston is leaking. either way, it is and R&R. You can rebuild it yourself, I did 3 of mine! Cost was $325 in parts and 4 days of time. But, you need mucho hand tools and possibly access to a press or at least have a large bench vise and an engine stand to hold it. Also, a very clean work area and a digital camera, or a memory like Kreskin.
