Exclamation Transmission Compatibility

I would like to know if the tranny from a 300e in the late '80s, early '90s would be a direct fit for an '89 300se?

If so, I could pull the tranny out of a 300e parts-only car and put it in a friend's 300se (whose tranny will not shift into the 3rd or 4th).

Well, the numbers are different:

300E: 722.320 (4-speed) or 722.358 (5-speed)

300 SE: 722.319 (4-speed) or 722.351 (5-speed)

Okay, so it won't be just a matter of fitment and such.

You think this idea won't work then huh?
