Hey everyone, I found a 420 on autotrader in my area with 260,000 miles. My question is is this too much for one of these vehicles? They're only asking $2300 and from the picture online it looks in great shape.

What can you all tell me about these cars? Here is the link:

I can't go anymore than $3K, and I can't look all over the country for the right one since I need it now.

semi high mileage, but if it really was maintained by an MB mechanic it should have all preventative work done. Seems reasonably priced. good luck

Do you have a budget for routine as well as unforeseen maintenance? Are you DIY-handy or do you have a good indy who knows the older MBs?

Well, that would be my next question...how expensive are the parts for these cars, and do a lot of things go wrong?

I don't know much about this model. I have had a couple Mercedes, but they were newer. I can do the easy stuff, but nothing internal, unless it's gaskets.

Any info on these cars would be great.

Amazingly expensive. You will spend an amount equivalent to a brand new nice mid-priced sedan fixing and maintaining an older MB. And then it will never end, you will just keep bleeding at a rather heavy pace until you get rid of it.

However, if this is the car of your dreams, what the hay, go for it.

I disagree.I own a 1991 420SEL with 207k on the clock, all of the repairs have been very reasonable , compared to repairs on my other 2 MB's.The W126 rates at the very top of build quality of any vehicle Mrecedes has ever built.If you have documentation that basic maintenance/service was done....GO FOR IT !
