Air or Heat turns on and off intermittently

Air or Heat turns on and off intermittently
I have an '88 300 SEL and when it's hot outside and the air is on it will just turn off and then start up again. Same with heat. Sound like an internal thermostat?

Do you mean the fan / blower is turning on and off? When the air cond. is on, do you know if the air cond. compressor is still engaged? If not, this points to power supply or the controller. If the compressor is still engaged I would start looking at the blower motor control.
I have seem a cracked fuse (the big flat type) cause intermittent behavior like you describe but everything will be off including the air cond. clutch. I would verify all of the fuses and the power connections on the controller and the fan motor.
If you have the 126 body service manual CDs there is a trouble-shooting guide that you can walk through that might help pin down the problem.
