1989 Mercedes Benz 560 SEL
560 SEL - whining sound coming from the dash?
Hey guys! I have a 1989 560 SEL - and when I turn the key to the point right before the engine turns - there is a loud whining sound coming from inside the dash. This sound comes on - without any air conditioning being put on - what is this sound? I was thinking it could be some sort of electrical fan or something - anyone have any idea? Thanks a bunch guys!

Aspirator or aspiration fan. It is what pulls the air passed the temp sensor up where your sunroof switch is located.
Try putting a small piece of tissue over the opening by the SR switch. It should stay there from the air being pulled past by the aspirator fan, if not the fan may be failing.
How is the climate control working?
