Interesting Find I Never Knew About....

So, I was riding in my friends 1991 560SEL, and there was a button on the console that had a picture of a steering wheel. I came to find out that it was a horn button to change between two different horn sounds! Can anybody give me more insight as to if it was an option/standard. I ask this because my fathers old 88 did not have it. Any help would be great. It was a cool find!

My 1988 560SEC has it, I believe it was standard on 126 560 models.

horn switch

it's called a 'fanfare horn switch', and it allows you to choose between two distinct horn notes. it was standard equipment (and only available) on the upper most models (i.e., SEC, 560SEL, etc.). on earlier models, the button is located on the upper console, adjacent to the hazard switch. on later models, the switch is located between the heated seat switches below the radio. why mercedes would bother tooling for such a useless item is beyond me, but that's what the switch is called, and what it does. the switch does not have a picture of a steering wheel, it has an icon for a horn. if you see a button that has an icon resembling the steering wheel, maybe it's the switch for the available ASD / ASR (optional on W126 all models for late '90 and '91 model year). but that icon looks more like a tire with snow chains on it that it does a steering wheel.
