console wood

console wood is scratched-looks like someone had been putting there coffee cup on it for a while-can I just wet sand it and apply a few coats of clearcoat?

no man if anything i would try to buff it with a very fine wax based compound..you are going to destroy it the other way and you dont want to have to replace it $

just my thoughts

the shellac mercedes uses on the wood trim in these vehicles is incredibly durable. similar to rolls-royce in that when new, you literally would have be able to crush out a lit cigar without any damage to the finish. as is the case in most high-end vehicles, the elegant grained or swirled wood trim you see is only a thin veneer, attached to an unfinished wood panel of a different, sturdier wood. because of the delicate nature of veneers, any repairs should be left for professional wood workers.

took the advice and compounded it then used a scratch removing polish and it almost looks like new-thanks-now when I walk by it gleams like the rest of the wood-huge improvement!
