Starting problem & stutter when cold
Hi, I'm new to the forum. I've recently bought a 1988 300 SE with a manual box which is pretty rare in the UK, only ever seen one other one! Also have owned a 420 SE for 2 years.
I'm having a small problem in that the 300 struggles to start in the mornings. It takes a few seconds of cranking. Once it is running I can turn it off and straight back on again and its fine. The idle is perfect but as I drive off the car stutters a little bit under mild acceleration but if I put the foot down a little harder its ok. Also once the car it properly up to operating temp all is fine.
I have changed the distributor cap and rotor arm but the issue remains. I was thinking it could be the cold start valve or fuel pump relay?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Norman

I would remove the cold start valve and see if it is sliding freely just by shaking it back and forth. Sometimes they get clogged and stick in an open fashion like a choke for a carbuerator causing that hesitation or studder.
