Question 90 300 sel ignition elec switch removal

Whats the best way to remove electrical switchfrom ignition. I have have dash ins panel out for access. Plug is very tight, key is in on position to allow removal. Then try and remove screws from behind? Must be an eaiser way. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's A Little Help

Well you're almost there for certain..........
After having removed the Inst-Cluster to provide access, use a long reach needle nosed pliers to remove the switch contact (careful of the wiring).
Then there is a hex head screw which stabilizes the column lock & keeps its position properly center. A 1/4 drive w/ 1" extension works great! You'll find it with a inspection mirror & a light.
There is also a "ARRESTING/LOCKING TAB" which you will find by running your finger around the lock barrel. Once found, depress & release the lock from the steering column. I find the pick from a Stubby Hook & Pick Set works best for me!
Needless to say, ensure that the NEW switch is aligned correctly & works by re-installing the IGN Lock & Barrel before you start to re-assemble the Instrument Cluster. "Triple check the re-installation of the LOCK-TO-COLUMN & ARRESTING TAB!!!!!!!"
The wiring for the IC indicator lamps should be marked 1,2,3, etc which correspond to the positions on the Cluster Back Plate & of course the other connector plugs cannot be mis-positioned! Test the lamps & if okay, you should be good to go.........

Almost there

Thanks for advice, It looks like I need to remove black ring from key hole to allow enough room for ignition to move to right. Im working on that now.

1st things being 1st, what you need to do is:
1)Remove negative cable from battery
2)Key inserted
3)Turn key to position 1
4)Insert special tool (use a paper clip) inserted in the slot to compress the lock cylinder spring (do you have 1 slot or 2 in the cylinder bezel?)
5)Do Not attempt to remove the key or the paper clip
6)Twist / Turn the black cylinder cover to the left. As this component threads OFF, the Ignition cylinder & key will be removed along with it!

P.S. If you are having a difficult time locating the Arresting Pin while trying to remove the steering wheel lock, try a "THIN FLATHEAD" screwdriver between the dash-padding & the black upper surround of the steering column. Following the line of the Ign-Switch towards the steering column it should be between 90 - 180 degrees!! If you have already removed the hex screw as I'd directed you to, the the entire switch can spin a bit up & down. A bit of upward pressure on the switch (where the connection block has been removed) towards you, will cause the entire lock to rotate when you hit the arresting tab! Wiggle & pull to your right & it comes right out........

Thanks for help, I'm going to work on it tonight. I do have a two slot ring, looks like tool needs to be inserted at same time to allow ring to be unscrewed.

still working on this. I did get ignition out without breaking anything. Have yet to remove black cover which allows key tumbler removal. I understand the concept, just dont have the touch yet. I did find another link that shows some great pics, good luck. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...d.php?p=769549
