W140 wheels on a W126?

I've used the search feature for hours. Scoured the W126 threads, and the W140 threads. But cannot find the answer to what I thought would be a simple question.

I just bought a 1990 560 SEL, one owner with 127,000 miles. All books and records. The car is mint. The only problem I have found was it needs new struts and shocks.

The only thing I'd like to change is the wheels. I don't want to go crazy, but the 15"'s just look too small on the car. I would go Monoblock 1 piece, but cannot find any at a reasonable price for the W126 chassis.

My solution was to source a set of 16" MB factory wheels from a W140. I just want enough more meat to drive smoother on the highway, and track better in the rain.

So long story short; do any W140 wheels bolt on to a W126 without problems?

Thanks.

What size are the wheels? The lug pattern is correct, but offset is what you need to pay attention to. Optimal offset for W126 is between 11-25. So if the W140 wheels are ET40, you can run a 20mm spacer and be fine.

I ran a 18x8.5 ET35 with 20mm spacer front and 18x9.5 ET35 with 30mm rear on mine, making it final ET 15f and 5r.

also 16x8 with ET23 no spacers

and now 17x8.5 ET18 and 17x10 ET18 with 20mm spacers making it -2, no issues.

You have plenty of options.

Go OEM!

Daniel,

W140 wheels - whether the pre 1996 or post 1996 16" look out of place on the W126 S-Class.

If you're looking for a fresher Mercedes sourced update, you might consider the 16" rims that were fitted on the 2000-2002 W210 E-Class.

Good luck.

I'va actually found some 17" AMG Mono I's with a 37 offset. Just need to source the correct 20mm spacers now.

Unless they are staggard, I highly suggest 10mm front, 20mm rear.
