Thanks for reply, This tranny is doing several things.

1. Does not engage reverse, linkages are connected.
2. slips from first to second never seems to get into third or fourth.
3. changed fluid and filter
4. adjusted bowden cable
5. checked vacuum lines to modulator/ and engine for faulty connection.
6. have not preformed a vacuum pressure test.
In a nutshell thats it, any other suggestions?

I had a somewhat similiar problem with my 1991 420SEL. It turned out that I had a faulty kickdown switch (which is located on the floorboard, directly behind the top of the accelerator pedal). With the kickdown switch button stuck "in", as was the case with mine, the car was not able to leave 2nd gear. I do not know if reverse was affected, because I was able to discover and correct the problem before I had to put the car in reverse. Replacing the part was simple (no tools necessary) as the kickdown switch is held in place by two pinch tabs. Diagnosing the switch was simple - press on it (firmly), and it should "click" with pressure applied. When released, it should pop back up with a "click". Mine was stuck in the down position, and when I wiggled it, it popped back up with such force that the button came off in my hand.

It was checked along with the other stuff in the manner that you described, it was not stuck in the down position; any other suggestions.

I have also been trying to find out some information regarding this issue and came across the website below. I don't know if it is a solution for your exact problem but they do have some suggestions on what to look for and do.
