Exclamation Putting on Alternator belt

I just bought a new belt yesterday and I a stumped on how to put it on. I have been tinkering with it and cant figure it out.

I see that I have to remove two belts in order to put the new one on, however I cant find the bolt or bolts to release the tension to slide them on and off. I called the auto repair shop and they want over 100 dollars to put on a belt. I am trying to figure this out to save money.

Has anyone out there done this before......What am I doing wrong????

I know of at least two tensioning schemes.

In all cases all the nuts and bolts must be loosened.

One scheme has a gear set up on the bolt itself.
The other has an adjusted that comes out the side of the bracket.

A flashlight helps, and it probably will become aparant to you if you look at it from underneath.

dude it is a pain in the *** but can be done and will take you an hour if you have a lift. u need to remove a/c and power steering belts first in order to get the alternator belts back in. the power steering belt is easiest to take off cause on top and tensioning screw right there and easy to get to. the a/c compressor same deal with a tensioning screw. then you get to the alternator and the tensioning screw is easy to spot its the long screw protruding from the top view of the alternator itself held in place by a bracket. but be aware since i had this problem with my alternator, it may get stuck as you loosen tensioner so get a crow bar or long pipe ready and push with some force in the direction of the slide to loosen belt because with me some rust (from 28 years of never replacing) may keep the alternator from sliding forward to release belts. to install new belts of course, start with 2 alternators belts then a/c lastly power steering. hope this helps
