Quick Grill and Shocks Questions
Hello! First post here,
On my 1987 560SEL I am looking at replacing the shocks all around. The rear end is sagging and my local MB mechanic has told me it will take alot of money to fix. So I am looking at some Bilstein HDs as a replacement. Can my mechanic accomplish this? Is it difficult taking out the self leveling system in the rear?
Also, I am thinking of painting the grill insert black, so the chrome stands out. I have heard issues of paint chipping, so what kind of paint would you suggest/how would I go about painting the insert?
Thanks alot!
Alex

Shocks only absorb shock. They do not hold up the car. If it is sagging, and the dealer says big bucks - inspect all the bushings; they may be shot.
If not, then you need springs.
And you still may need the shocks too.

About the paint: I suggest Hardnose paints by Restmotive Laboratories. This particular paint is extremely durable and weather resistant. (However, I'm not positive it can be applied on plastic without some special primer). I've used Por-15 and it's the best I've seen.
