Just bought a 500sel from auction! 2 problems, please help?

Hello folks, I just bought an 86 500sel from the auction today, benefiting goodwill.

The car is gorgeous and like brand new inside and out, but I noticed that the interior panel for covering the Jetronic computer was off. I suspected computer issues, but not 100% sure I confirmed it, when I start the car, she runs for about 20 seconds, and then dies. I have to let her sit for a while or disconnect and reconnect the battery for her to start again.

Is this more than likely the computer box? I was thinking maybe the previous owner THOUGHT it was, and when he found out it isnt, decided to donate?
The car starts up WITHOUT the computer box installed, if there is starting fluid in the intake.

Also, the brakes are stuck. This car has been sitting since 2006. The brake pedal is hard, and will stop the car only if you push REALLY hard. Any possible culprits?

Thanks guys! Glad to be back on these forums with another Mercedes, it's been a while!
