Good way to remove badges~

Recently I removed the 560SEL badge from the trunk of my 300SE. Found a perfect solution to remove the dark grey foamtape with absolutely no damage to the original paint on the trunk lid.
First I softened the foam with a spraying the whole thing with normal windex and let it soak for 5 minutes or so wiping the excess off.
Then I took a thin plastic dough knife (from kitchen supply) and making sure there is no grit on anything, placed the dough knife closely behind the chrome numbers a simply sliced the foam away from the numbers. the badge is now off the trunk, but the dark grey foamtape remains ( the stubborn part)

The part will surprise you, I tried all the mild solutions in the house trying to dissolve the glue gently, and this is what worked: Williams Lectric Shave (electric shaver pre-shave).
Pour a generous amount over the foam and let it soak it up for a few seconds, then working with your thumb you can rub the foam off the car.

Somehow the preshave stuff formula of diluted alcohol and oils are prefect to dissolve the glue safely.
Plus it gives the whole area a clean, crisp, masculine scent!

Clean off the area with windex when done, and buff with a good wax.

Great results.

Wow. You are inventive. Glad it worked and good tip.

Incidently 3m Adhesive removal work great as well.
Not sure you want to do double duty as an aftershave with the 3m though.

Thanks-

Yep, I don't think 3m would make a good aftershave! LOL

Dental floss is a quick way to start that process, no need to lever the emblems off the surface with attendant risk of scratches.

Ive de-badged both of my old BMW's and I just left them parked in the sun on a 90+ degree day for 3-4 hours and used dental floss (or you could use fishing line if they're really stubborn. I suppose you could just use a hair dryer and remove with your fingers/floss and use goo-gone to remove any excess residue.

HTH,

I should have explained more, the plastic cooking tool is very thin and without a handle. It wasnt used to pry or lever, it just slid flat behind the emblem and cut the foam.
No prying was done.
Thanks for the dental floss tip- seems that is the preferred technique. makes alot of sense.
