Desperately seeking used M110 engine
Hi all:
I have a 1985 Euro Spec 280SE with the M110 I-6 engine and 4 speed automatic, an engine that is reputed to be bulletproof, but mine has only 127,000 miles on it and two cylinders are dead. This is my daily driver and I need to find a solution fast. I'm not super mechanical but have a friend who is who will help, but he doesn't particularly know these cars. I believe my engine is the M110.989, not certain if other close engines (such as m110.990 or .988) would drop in, or are there other engines that would work easily? The car is in great condition otherwise, nearly perfect body, AC and all accessories work, good fabric, just a slightly droopy drivers seat, but it drives great, so I would hate to scrap it.
Any suggestions or leads on where to find an engine (cheap) greatly appreciated.

First of all, you are not providing enough info. You didn't say which cylinders are dead. If they are adjacent cyls, you've probably overheated it and blown a head gasket. If this is the case, I'd suggest scrapping the car, because you can buy a better one for what the repairs would cost. If the cyls are not adjacent that might suggest burnt valves which would be rare in that twin bump stick engine. When was the last time the Valves were adjusted?

I have a M110 Long Block - Brand new overhaul. Pistons - Rods Bearings Rings - chain laid in place. Customer gave me a deposit & stuck me with the balance. Came from a 1984 - 126 - 280SE. Terry Meager 330-645-6949 Ohio

Do you still have the engine? I have a Euro spec 1980 280 SE with a beyond machined cylinder head with multiple bad cylinder compressions.
I am no expert on this engine. Would your engine fit into my car? I live in Newburgh, Indiana, not too far away from you. Thanks very much
