How to stop the squeeking sound?
I have a 1987 560SEL, which uses the old style seating pattern. When the car ride onto the bumps on the street, these leather seat will start to squeek. Does anyone know how to stop them?
Thanks
It took me quite a few hours, and about $10 worth of sticky felt, to figure out just exactly where the majority of the squeeks were coming from in my interior. The door panels are deffinately the culprits. In order to rid 99% of the rattles from the car, you will have to remove the door panels and install felt over all surfaces that look live they have been rubbing against anything. But the loudest squeeks come from the plastic trim pieces at the back of the map pockets that run from the tops of the speakers down to the bottom of the map pockets (provided your W126 is a model equipped with the upgraded 100w audio system with speakers in the front doors, MY 89-91 i think).
Another troublesome spot, that is just as noisy but DOESN'T require door panel removal, is the bottom edge of the door panel under the map pockets and speakers (if equipped). This area is the flat spot that comes in contact with the rubberized plastic thresholds. You can see where this contact has worn the plastic a little and is even shinny in some spots. Install sticky felt all along this edge and you will be amazed at the difference!
While you have your door panels off, I would highly recommend a thorough cleaning of the panels in their disassembled state. It is much easier to clean something when it is sitting at a comfortable angle on a flat surface, ie dinning room table, provided your wife/parents don't object. Don't forget the rear doors too!
Good Luck! I can provide more info/pics if need be.

I'm sorry to hear that! I was able to get sticky felt from a place called Michael's (a craft store) here in SoCal. My feeling is that any craft store should carry this stuff. That being said, maybe you should try a different place? Maybe you can purchase the felt from the Michael's website?
