1985 280SEL Speedometer
Hello all,
I have a 1985 280 SEL W126 European model and am trying to find an original speedometer for it. When I purchased the car I found the speedometer reading to be over by 5-10 mph and tried to replace it with one from a 300SE which proved to be worse. In the process I did find that the one in my car doesn't have the outlet on the back for the EZL plug (ignition related). So, I thought that I'd try to find an original one and have it sent out to be refurbished.
The dilemma:
The part numbers of the original speedometers for this car are 009 542 36 06 replaced by 009 542 35 06 for a 240 KMH and 010 542 85 06 for the 160 MPH unit. There was also a 011 542 01 06, but someone with one said that it did not have the outlet for the EZL plug. The dilemma is that these part numbers do not appear on the units, in fact on the face plate of the speedometers they tend to have part numbers that start with 126 542 xx xx and I don't know how to cross reference them to the part number. This is making it tough to find an aftermarket or used speedo.
So, does anyone out there have or know of a W126 280SEL that they can tell me the face plate number so that I can try to find and purchase an original speedometer for my car?
