300td question
I am the 2nd owner of a 1985 sedan. The vehicle has been serviced regularly and I have had no problems with her until this past weekend on the interstate.
After running about 150 miles at 75mph I noticed a roaring noise begin in the rear. I pulled off at the 1st exit and rolled down the rear windows to hear clank, clank, clank....and as I slowed the clanking decreased with each rotation.
Pulling away from my stop I noticed that the noise was completely gone. I pulled into a bay and lifted the car to look for an obvious sign of damage, nothing.
Put her back on the road and in about 100 miles or so the same roar and then clanking as I pulled off. I found as I came to a complete stop and started again the noise was gone and the vehicle ran fine for another 100 or so miles. Each time the roar would start I would pull over to a complete stop and once moving the noise would be gone.
Anyone have any ideas on this situation?
I'll check the exhaust and hopefully that's the problem since it would be less expensive than something in the rear axle.
I figure if it were an axle/differential problem, that the problem would not go away by stopping and starting again.
