Air Vent Slider Woes

1985 500 SEL
Air Vent Slider Woes
Of the three climate control vent sliders on the center of the dash, the one on the left seems to be stuck! It's mainly closed, and pushing on it doesn't seem to do much. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have owned 4 w126s. At the moment I am car less!
I had a similar problem where when I had the slider in the open position it was closed and vice versa (or something similar to that).
I took it to a local specialist and he said it was the cable behind the switch (not electrical cable, just a cable that pulls it open and closed). It took him about 10 minutes to repair

1989 420SEL
You have problems? Check this...
My 1989 420SEL's air conditioning only comes out the defrosters! My MB dealership (Schumacher European) said it was a common problem on w126's, but expensive to fix. 1000.00$. Can you believe it? Any suggestions?
