Where to start? The Italians or the Germans?
1989 AMG Coupe in Colorado

Greetings everyone!

I figured I'd make a thread on this forum with my latest acquisition: an '89 560sec 6L AMG (built by AMG North America). It's had a bit of a tough life. Some of the owners did not feel like caring for it properly. This will be a fun project. It's quite the car in person. I can't wait to get the proper 4V (DOHC) heads back on--they never should have been swapped in the first place (if you want my off the record opinion). It will take me a while, but I do have all the original documents for this car. Quite the stack.

Some of the plans for the moment:
Clear-coat entire car to preserve original paint
4V heads back on next spring
Upgraded/built transmission
OS Giken/Quaife LSD (pull the Gleason Torsen unit before it grenades & store it)
Euro front and rear Gen II AMG bumpers (US units will be stored away)
17x8.5 3 piece OZ for AMG all around (will be polished)
Leatherique interior and make some minor repairs (headliner, windows bleed, etc)
Restore sound system to 'stock' AMG specs (needs CD changer, head unit, telephone)
Bilstein B8's and H&R springs will be used, but I am trying to source the original computer damping AMG suspension system that came on the car originally.

Enough rambling for now. Time for pictures:

Pick up pictures. Quite low. Needed blocks on top of the race ramps.

Took it straight off the trailer to the dyno shop (Dynojet was used). Right on the money for the AMG claimed 320BHP (from the current SOHC 2V 6L setup)

Needs a wash...it's filthy.

Much better

Underneath the beast:

Gleason Torsen 3.06 currently in car:

Feedback, comments, critique, and sarcasm are all greatly appreciated from anybody who wants to chime in!

Updates should be fairly frequent with this thread so keep an eye on it!

Cheers,
Ricky

Gosh that is really sweet. I love the red interior. How did you find it?

A true AMG SEC with the AMG engine is one of my dream classics. Good luck with the restoration!

Beautiful! I saw it on Craigslist down in Pueblo a few months ago. I had no idea it had the AMG engine. I assumed it was just the body kit. The red interior is so cool. Did it stay in Colorado?
