Question 85 MB 500sel Fuel Pressure Damper, gas in oil

Does this sound correct; if you find gas in the oil from trying to start the car (car just died one day and won't start now, but tries), that it is caused by a bad ?

There is about 2-3 quarts of fuel in the oil (on dip-stick).

I saw a post that said to check for a bad fuel pressure damper (regulator) by disconnecting the vac line and see if fuel drips out of the regulator when engine is crank. I did this, but no fuel came out, so does this mean the regulator is good? I also can not find anything on how the fuel can get into the oil pan from this regulator, anyone know the process?

Does anyone have another answer for fuel in gas?

Mercedes Benz 380SE
When the shop replaced the fuel injector on my '85 380SE they said gas got in the oil which really ticked me off because I had just spent $80 on an oil change for full synthetic.
