1982 380 SEL Very Rough and Spluttering On Acceleration
Hey guys
I have just bought my first 380 SEL and I have to be honest, I feel like a boss driving it:-) I plan to bring it back to its former glory, and I'm so lucky it's in great condition as it shouldnt take much work!
However, it hasn't been on the road for 4 years and I needed to give it a fairly thorough service to have it running smooth ie fuel filter, oil filter, new oil, new spark plugs, new brake pads etc...
Now a few weeks on it is running really rough again. The idle is good, and when I accelerate in neutral or park the engine sounds strong and fine, it's only when I first accelerate in gear and on initial take off it feels like it is choking really bad with no power, but it can rev fairly high and like I said it feels like it is spluttering and struggling to get consistent power eventhough my foot is pretty much to the floor. Once it gets going it is ok but still not great.
Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know what could be causing it and is there anyway I can self diagnose with out going to the Stealership???
The other thing worth mentioning is that in the rectangular box on the muffler that looks like a catalytic converter (but obviously its not) I have a long hole in it could this be the problem or be adding to it?
