1988 w126 300 sel Not Starting
I have an issue that I need assistance with.
Specs: 1988 MB 300 sel w126 with 3.0 l inline 6 engine.
Issue: Auto will not start. In the past, I had issue with the cold start up valve and would have to spray starting fluid in the carb to get the engine to start.
I went away on business for 3 weeks and went to start the car. It was about 80 degrees out and figured I would not need to use the starting fluid.
The engine would not start, so, I broke out the starting fluid, sprayed, and tried to start the car.
What would happen, aside from the car not starting was that I noticed that it seemed that when the engine even attempted to 'turn over' puffs of smoke would come out of the carburetor, like little mini back fires.
So now, the auto will not start, and if it "thinks about starting" upon turnover, little mini 'backfires' come out of the carburetor.
Question: What would cause this kind of engine behavior?
Thank you !!!!!!!!!!
