I just acquired this car. It was last driven 7-8 years ago. Doesn't start now. I put some gas into the tank and realized that the hose from the tank was leaking as it had worn out due to age. My main concern or rather dilemma is the hose in the engine compartment that I can figure where it goes. When i bought the car, it was disconnected. Can anybody help?

Is the other end connected to a emissions system component, like a belt-driven air pump?
It reminds me of a hose that is designed for that kind of use, and automakers during that time were using air pumps to inject air just downstream of the exhaust manifold to "help" with emissions somehow.

The other end seems to go into the motor/engine. I am not able to determine whether the aforementioned hose draws in air at this time since I have not been able to start the car. I tried a few times even with a new battery to no avail. It cranks once but that is it. One of the local MB fanatics said that it could be the starter. I am going to pull out the starter sometime this week and take to one of the parts stores for a test of its functionality. I went to the dealer today to get a rough estimate of how much it could be to get it back on the road and we can down to $10,000 give or take. However, I don't have that kind of money sitting around. I certainly won't invest it it until I can get to start. Thanks for your response.
