300SD differences 77-81 & 82-85

hi,

i'm looking at getting an older mercedes 300D w/ turbo '77-'85.

i like the way the '77-'81s look better than the '82-'85s, but i heard some parts cost more to fix on the older ones. could somebody point out which ones those might be? are there any other factors that might lead me to one model over the other?

85 500 SEL

Parts may cost more on the older cars because they’re older and harder to find; other than that all the 300 SDs to 1986 with the OM617 engine were solid and reliable. I would recommend an 81 to 83 300 SD.
