1982 300 SD Driveshaft Support help
Hi all. Thanks for any help. My 1982 300 SD Turbo Diesel needs a new drive shaft support. Its shot. Basically gone. I'm sure I have to remove the entire drive shaft. The shop near me says they can get the part(s) for $120. That seems crazy. Anyone know if this is a job I can do at home? Looks like it. Also, I think I can get the needed parts MUCH cheaper. Anyone know exactly which I need? Thanks again. -Mike

Please STFU with that. You don't need to know the VIN for every friggin' question asked here!
He posted exactly EVERYTHING you need to know to help him.
"1982" "300SD" Thats it. Thats all you need!
blsseattle, yes, the center support is easy. Mark the driveshaft alignment before you disassemble it.
You might need to heat the old bearing to get it off. Use some fine emery cloth to clean the shaft and the new bearing should slide on without excessive effort.
$120 is extreme, even if its a genuine Mercedes part.

Replace the slip joint boot while you are there.

Replace the flex discs if they show any cracks in the rubber or they are more than 10 years old.
