Multiple questions about our 300SE

Hello, I am new to this forum. From a year, my father purchased a 1989 300SE. It needs a bit of work and we are repairing it. And I want it in pristine condition (it will be my first car, I am still 17). I'll post some picture of is. But I have some questions. First is there is a possibility to retrofit courtesy lights at the bottom of the door panels? Secondly, the driver seat leather is ripped. is there a way to DIY repair it?

That's my father.

I have replaced all 4 courtesy door lights. Cost me about $7 each and very easy to do. Also replaced the light bulbs with LED lights.

For the rip in the seat I would go to a shop to get an opinion.

Good luck!!

JSch, did you replace them (I mean they were present but broken or something) or retrofit them. In my case they weren't an option and I want to know if it is possible to retrofit them perfectly.

My guess would be that MB would have used a standard door for all W126 models - all SE models the same and all SEL models the same. If that is true, then you should have covered openings or spaces where the lights should be on the other models. If there are openings, it would be a matter of getting the lights fitted and getting the wires installed.

If there are spaces for the courtesy lights, you should be able to retrofit in my opinion.

Hopefully someone else may have an opinion as well.

I'll check tomorrow for that "space". Thank you.
