adding a subwoofer to the 126
I have a Pioneer MP3 deck and added 6x9's in the rear shelf but its still not enough bass (for me atleast).
How do I add a subwoofer? Do they work and sound well in 126's? How do I wire one up?

I have an older 126, an 84 300SD, so the rear deck is a bit different (for example, i had to break some of it off around the speakers in order to fit two 6 inchs). Originally there were only old crappy 4X7s. This added no bass, so being the stupid teenager I was at the time, I put two pretty good 12 inch woofers in the trunk . As you can imagine, the bass is more than enough now, but the rattling in the trunk is hard to avoid. Also, I've had to stick pieces of cloth in between my rear deck and the metal piece it lays on in order to get that area to stop rattling. If I had it to do over again, I believe I would of paid professionals to adapts a smaller 8 inch woofer into one of the storage compartments on the back of the deck.
PS. The reason I had to get such huge woofers in the trunk is because the gas tank is mounted vertically between the trunk and the back seat, therefore killing a lot of sound/bass that may be produced in the trunk, so you need to get something powerful enough if you choose that option to be able to penetrate that big 20 gallon tank.
wow, didn't mean to write a book

as far as I know of, no. I think you have to rig up something custom if you want to do that. The biggest you would be able to get in there would probably be an 8, and of course certain subs require a certain amount of air space in order to sound proper.

I have a 86 300 SDL . If you can put your hands on a pair of Infinity 6002i reference it will fit perfectly in the rear deck hole.
First remove the original speakers detech/cut the plastic base away from the speakers. Fit the new Infinity 6002i on top of the base with some crazy glu. Cut the DIN plug from the old speakers.
Solder the wiers to the new speakers green/black is + green is -.
Use a low level out from the CD to an amp . Your base wil satisfy most of you. I have an Infinity 1200 sub and will not make a whole lot of a diference when I disconect it from the system.
For step by step send me e-mail to tvk@canada.com
