Arrow What is this?

Hi guys,

So I bought a 1983 W126 380SE automatic this past weekend to use as a daily and for charity events. I'm new to Merc as I've always had BMW and Audi, so it's an exciting learning curve

Does anyone know what the part circled in the picture is? It was disconnected when I took ownership of the car, but surely it has a function? I can't find any engine diagrams anywhere that explains what it might be... anyone know? The car idles quite rough and was thinking this might have something to do with it.

Thanks!

It's behind the distributor and just under the front of the air filter housing

It's an idle control valve.

And it's installed wrong. Electrical connector should point forward.

Does anyone know if the 6cyl M110 W126 (Australian delivery) has a corresponding part or is it just the "Slide Valve"?
