Unhappy new home for great engine??

Here is my query, I have an 83 300 sd whose outer shell is failing (donated by family member from up north).... the engine and tranny work flawlessly and i would like to save them both.... i have been waiting in line for 2 restoration shops locally for about a year and a half and it has finally become to depressing to watch it fall apart.... i have an 86 420 sel with a great body but i can not stand gas engines.... i am considering swaping the engine/trans combo and i would like to know if anyone has any suggestions/advice.... i have the MB service manuals and wiring diagrams for both vehicles.... help!!!

Are you planning on doing it your self? I'd call the dealership and ask a technician personally, doubt anyone will know on this site....

85 500 SEL
Pull the engine and tranny form the SD, sell the 420 and engineless SD, buy an SD with a great body and bad engine and tranny, put the good engine tranny in the new to you SD quick and easy at little cost.
