500 SEL questions

Hey Everyone!!

I'm new to the board and also fairly new to Mercedes cars, we have a 2002 C240. I'm looking at a 1985 500 SEL, its black with 130,000 miles. Its at a car dealership, I just called them and they said the car runs great, but it needs a tune up (runs a little rough). They said it shifts fine, electronics fine, etc. The price on it is $3600. What are some things I could check out when I look at the car? Also, how much are these cars worth? Fairly easy to work on? Thank you for any help you guys can give me, I really appreciate it!!

If anything that was the last year for that engine, so its got that going for it, aslong as it hasn't been wrecked $3600 is about right but would offer $3000 or less to start the bidding. Water pump went out on mine at 180,000 miles, thats not typical but it does happen, also i'd ask them to tune it up before you bought it, and maybe have them do the timing chain also. If it was well maintained thier really nice cars, just pretty low tech by todays standards. Any car with a long wheel base is going to be real comfortable as long as its well maintained and in good shape.

edit: it will feel like alot more car that your 240, but your 240 will be faster, in 85 they only had 185hp in the US...
