looking at an 85 380 se with 79,000 miles
can anyone tell me what to look for in these cars?

My last car was a 1985 380SE, and I drove it 17 years and over 100,000 miles. Loved that car!!! I still think it's one of the most beautiful cars ever built. The weak part of the car is the transmission (I went through 2 of them in 100,000 miles) and the air conditioning.
