If there wasn't a 3.46 differential, you'd be left in a dangerous situation.
According to Mercedes500.de, a German W126 enthusiasts site, the 300SEL with an automatic 4 speed should sprint 0-100km/h in 11 seconds, and on to a top speed of 202 - 210 km/h. 125 - 130 mph. This is a barebones 300SEL with only 1650 kg of weight.
They aren't Supras, but they can wind up to 130 if you give 'em time.
However if you own one and can prove it's quicker and faster, then we'll believe you.

Like I said, 4 speed automatic, but KAT equipped DIN rated at 180 hp(the slowest 300 you'll find). 0-100 in around 11 seconds, likely less if conditions were more ideal. For all we know, the car could've been driven up an incline to get this data, it wasn't measured by GPS, or the wind was blowing hard.

MBWorld Fanatic!
top speed used to be 130mph before i added larger 16" wheels and mud flaps (more drag) now its more like 128mph.
0-60 in US trim (177hp) is 9.6 sec, mine has euro bumpers (less weight) so it is in the neighborhood of 9.4 sec.
not a rocketship

How fast the 300SEL
Hello,
Well I don't know the top speed - haven't tried that, but I have taken my 300SEL on the freeway in Southern Cal from roughly 80 m.p.h. quickly, and I mean quickly, up to 110 m.p.h. without any problem whatsoever and it appeared to have the capacity for much more top end speed. I in fact was surprised that I was doing over 100 m.p.h. and let off on the accelerator to slow the car. My car was fully loaded and runs on high-end Yokohama tires. Also owning a 911SC I am happy with my Mercedes' performace and ability to ramp up.

So what I said, 0-100 km/h in 11 seconds was not far off at all.
Look, a 300CE Euro coupe barebones 3200-3300 lbs can go 100 - 120 km/h in about 4 seconds.
I am guessing it takes a 300SEL about maybe slightly less than 11 seconds to get to 62 mph in peak shape, since it is about 4 seconds for the coupe to get from 62.5 - 73'ish mph. I have a video of a 300CE in action.

83 300SEL
0 - 100KM/h in 8 seconds. no performance or weight reduction modifications.. and the car is in **** condition body wise
these cars are as heavy as a millitary tank..lot of unwanted weight.. if u can slam in light weight alloy rims, get a fiber hood and trunk lid, and replace the seats with lighter ones..u can gain better performance
the stock intake is ****.. u can put a better intake..if u have fuel injection (i dont know abt carbeurator), u can intall a forced cold air intake via pully run blower and a few other things and may run like 6 sec

I had an M110 '85 280SEL once, and although initial pickup was less than stellar, it got up and flew after 5K - 5.5K revs.
