Gasoline odor--new W126 owner
Greetings, new to this thread, I'm usu. on the W210 page.
I just added a W126 to the family: a beautiful charcoal 1990 300SE in wonderful shape. I'll post pics later. Has 198K & got it for $2,800. It's on it's original transmission, but just about everything else has been replaced/rebuilt by the previous owner.
Only thing I notice is a gasoline odor that is very faint around the exterior of the car; i.e. I only notice it when I'm really close to the car cleaning the rocker panels. Thought I'd ask you guys first to see if this is a common problem. What should I look at?
BTW, I'm so happy to have this car in our family...it is IMO, one of the most beautiful cars EVER!

Is there any gas leaking on the ground? The fuel pump and filter are right behind the rear wheel (on the v8 models) is everything secure?? Does it smell like gas after its been sitting awhile or after it has been driven??

fuel leak
my experience with my fuel leak was under driver side you have your fuel lines, one of them is the feed line ,one the return line the third one is a brake line ,they have a tendency to corrode due to moisture captivity in the holding bracket.check carefully.
hope this is your problem because the fix will cost you 5$ in parts and maybe 1/2 hour of labour
