500SEL shifter knob replacement
I want to replace my shift knob. How do I take the old shift knob off? I tried turning it (righty tighty, lefty loosey) but it won't budge. I didn't want to twist too hard in case I break something. Is it actually threaded or maybe it's a push fit. Help.

don't quote me on this but I think it's a one piece set - meaning, the shift knob is not detachable. The best chance of getting a diff. shifter is to get the entire shifter assembly.. but I doubt you'd want to do that.

I changed the shifter on my w123 (84 300D) by removing the whole shift assembly (which was easy- you have to first remove the center console from the rear, then you will see the screws that hold the shift assembly in place) then you will need to remove the screw/bolt that holds the shifter in (which is somewhat of a pain in the a##, but very doable), then scew in your new shifter and put the shift assembly and console back. shouldn't take you more than 45 mins-1 hr
