Fixing my 500SEC turn signals - solution
I bought a warning flasher/turn signal relay part# 000-821-10-63. I removed the old one from behind the instrument cluster. It had the part# 000-821-09-63.
I was going to send the 10-63 back but I went to the MB dealer parts dept. and asked them. They said the 4 prong relay replaced the 3 prong (09-63) relay and was an upgrade. The 4th prong was just ignored (there was an empty hole for it in the plug).
I put in the 10-63 relay (a difficult task reaching down and aligning the prongs to insert it with the instrument cluster partially in the way). The front left blinker did not work. The rear left blinker flashed very fast. The headlights (on) still stopped the left blinkers from working at all.
But it appeared the bulb was blown for the front left blinker. So I replaced the bulb and everything worked fine. The wiring is very strange in these w126 vehicles. I hope this helps other who have similar issues.
One good result - the old relay was almost silent and I would keep forgetting to turn it off after a turn. The new one has a louder click and is easier to hear so I do not forget to turn my turn signal off after a turn.
