Newbe question on suspension 500SEC

I want to finish up my 1985 500SEC that I have had sitting in the garage for three years.

The first thing I want to do is lower the car and put on new shocks.
I am not sure whether or not I have the self leveling suspension system.
I guess I check under the car to see if I have springs or not.

From another post, I have seen that some people have abandoned the self leveling system. What is involved in that and why is it done?

Here are photos of the car.

A couple of things, all Mb's have springs whether they SL or not.. Show us a pic of your engine room and we can tell in a second. Get a set of H&R's, and Bilstein HD's. Best combo on the market in my opinion. If your self lelving is functional I would strongly recomend you not remove it. It is a handy system to have, and a bit of a pain to remove completely.

Best,
Jonathan
