antilock warning light coming on?

89 420 SEL and 97 E320
antilock warning light coming on?
My 89 420SEL's antilock warning light is coming on sporadically.
On my 10 mile commute to work, it may come one once or twice and stay on anywhere from a block, to 2 miles, then it goes off by itself.
When the light comes on, the RPM's go up about a 1,000.
This has been going on for about two weeks.
Anyone have an idea what is causing this, and why RPM's would be effected if the antilock system was faulty?
I'm wondering of maybe an O2 sensor is malfunctioning, but again, why would the antilock idiot light come on for that?

my abs light came on when my car was trying to tell me my master cylinder was dying-then it died then i knew why the light was on- i replaced it and it went away.....maybe yours is diff

i dont know its a weird car, maybe ur having shortage somewhere? hmm when u accelerate does it throw black smok ? then it might be your frequency valve...orr hmmm im not sure to behonest with u.

OVP is the Over-Voltage Protection relay. It cuts off power to sensitive electronic systems, like ABS, if the voltage gets too high. Sometimes the fuses in them blow, or the whole relay fails. This might also explain the high RPM, because the engine management goes out, too.
