Acceleration problem with the 420 SEL...
In the last two weeks there has been a problem with accelrating above 50mph. Today I had a hard time starting the vehicle. After starting, the car wanted to die after acceleration at any speed. Any ideas as to what might be wrong ?

It's an '87 420 SEL.

Fuel filter dirty? Fuel line? Injector issue? spark plugs? check them if I were you.

It has to sit for at least 15min after running to start up again.

Sounds as though you are having a major fuel delivery issue. I would start w/ the fuel filter. If possible, take your car to a shop that can check your fuel pressure at the fuel distributor. I had a 420 in my shop w/ a similar problem (although not as bad..) and it turned out to be two fold, a bad fuel pressure accumulator and a tired fuel distributor.

How many miles on your 420?

the FPR generally is a hit or miss deal..either it works or it doesn't..
