need help 300 sdl 1986
I am new to the list and need some help on my newly purchased 300sdl 1986
1. Try to change the fan belt, anybody can help and let me know how to do it easier way (was thinking to take off one of the pulley) ?.
2. Got problem with the sunroof, it would not slide open (only can tilt upward), what should I do ?.
3. I want to change my front joint rod supports as seems it made a one side baldness (outside area) on my tire, anybody has experience on this - need advise.
4. Anybody know where to purchase the plastic retainer for door strip?

1987 300SDL aka the "Money Pit"
The 603 does not have a fan belt it has a serpintine belt. Look at the tensioner at the top, you will see a plastic thing with a hole in it. Put a long metal rod in that hole, a socket extension works well. Then you see a nut and bolt running through the head. Undo the nut and slide the bolt back until it is not holding the plastic thing in place anymore. Using the metal rod you will have to take the pressure off of the bolt to slide it back, then you can take the pressure off the belt.
I hope this makes sense it is very simple to do.
Make sure the tensioner wheel is in good shape those go bad all of the time. So do the belt dampeners.

Thanks, I will try to change the belt next weekend.
Now I have a problem on the glow plug/heater, as usually when I start, I have to wait for the glow plug light to turn off first.
Now the glow plug light does not even turn on at all, is this a problem with fuse or I have to change all the glow plugs?
Need advise.

I don't know why the glow plug light isn't coming on anymore, but if you're doing ANY form of electrical troubleshooting, the first step is to change the fuses involved and then go from there.
