down on power in the 560sel

Hi all,
had a few w126's but just got a 560sel, my mech reckons its a bit down on power and maybe the timing chain has jumped a cog with the resukt of the cams running slightly out of synch.
Does this sound realistic as it is an expensive fix i thinks.
Not having driven any other 560's I am not really in a position to judge.
Any other things i should check to help with the power?
Might go to a dyno to get actual power output and judge from that.
all the best
adam

If the car has more than 100K miles on, and the chain has never been changed, then it's time to do it. As far as power goes, what is missing in your case? 0-60 is around 7. something seconds. Also check your tranny. Since you just got the car, I'd change all the fluid in it.

If your car jumped timing it would be Really slow, ie, not moving at all so scratch that. If you haven't driven other 560's how do you know this one is slow?
If it is slow, it could be a number of things, clogged fuel filter, clogged cat, bad fuel distributor, bad mixture settings, bad injectors, bad cap/rotor..

Some details on what has and has not been done, mileage etc would be helpful. And yes, if it i has over 100,000 miles make Sure the timing chain/tensioner/guide rails and oil line clips are changed.

560SEL
check all filter, check spark plugs and ignition system, check the exhaust system for abnormal back pressure..check the hydromat suspension pump and radiator for clogging..if somethig it restrciting the pumps to circulate fluid freely, it will load the engine and make u feel it down on power!

OK..thanks guys.
I though my mech was a bit off with the jumped chain theory. In the porsche 928 if the belt slips or breaks the engine destoys itself.
I have never driven another 560 but my mech has...he was the guy who reckoned it was a bit slow. It feels ok to me but coming out of 911 and 928 porsches everything seems a bit slow
Maybe he just wants to sucker me into a partial rebuild
The hydro susp has been removed by previous owner....will make sure the pump has been taken off or is not slowing things down.
Fresh exhaust on car...will clean out rad.
I will try and get a 0-100kms (0-60miles) time for it.
I have changed all the fluids (Tranny was very low).
Will do the plugs and leads in the next few weeks and report back...keen to get this car moving along as it quickly as it should.
thanks again.
