Need help with cleaning MAF on S500 engine

I have a '96 S500 coupe with only 36,000 miles, the car was brought new and barely driven so everything was pretty much kept to excellent condition. It recently developed a strange problem and there are no error codes...

If I drive or run the engine everyday then everything is fine, if I let the car sit for more than 2 or 3 days, this problem will happen. The car would start fine and runs perfectly, but after maybe 10 or 15 mins running, the power will suddenly be gone, it feel as though the spark plugs dies or something and I have to step on the gas hard to keep it from stalling. At this point, the engine might die if I let it sits idle, but if I push the car hard and give it a good run then everything will be back to normal...

Since there's no error code, I'm thinking maybe the MAF is cloaked? I *think* I located the MAF on the left side of the air-intake, but is there another one at the right side? And how do I remove the MAF from the air-intake hose? Thanks for any help in advance!

yes they do get dirty.... its very easy...

just get a bottle of 91% isopropyl alcohol from your local grocery store (aboug $2) and take out your MAF (unplugged of course) and literally just pore it straigth out of the bottle all along the maf sensor inside... then WAIT for it to dry, once completely try, put it back in and bingo, brand new MAF.

Cleaning MAM sensor

OmeyHomey, Thank you for the suggestion. I'll do it as you sugested, the next time the CEL comes on. And also, how about cleaning the throttle body with spray aerosol air-intake cleaner? I have '98 E320. May I also ask you what you think about the CEL and 'engine electronics', occasionally only, coming on in stop and go traffic when I touch the brakes. The car runs flawlessly. Just made a 2,000 mile trip and averaged over 30 mpg for the whole trip! (I'm a retired airline pilot and I know how to make an accurate fuel consumption check.) I am buying a new MAM sensor, just want to make sure that it might not be something else I need to be concerned about. Thanks again.

I have the same problem with my 1993 400 SEL. I have replaced the engine wiring harness, fuel filter, and Air mass meter. None of these corrected the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Has your problem been taken care of? My 94 S320 is having the same symptoms. At times when i come to a stop, the rpm's bounce up to 1000 then back down to 300, just short of stalling out. I just had the engine wiring harness replaced, spark plugs, ignition coils, and spark plug wires.
