Brake indicator

My brake pad light is flashing on and off. I know my pads are low, but my service rep told me that it's necessary to change the discs as well as the pads. Is this necessary? My car has about 80K miles on it. Also, how much should something like this cost on a 93 S600? Thanks!

I have a 93 500SEL with about 175,000 miles on it and never changed the disc at all. I would recommend you to take off the wheel and take a look at the disc itself. See if it is actually depleating if so you would have to. BUt change the brakes should be ok. If your the type of person who likes to work on car email me and I will tell you how to change the pads yourself, saves you about 200-300 at the dealer. Oh the complete service you mention cost around 600 to 1,000.

A rule of thumb is to change the discs with every other set of pads (providing you're using OEM pads). Especially if you have a suspicion that your disks are warped (easily felt as vibration during braking). But - YMMV
