If that car has square trunk lid there is more involved than just the lights , you need to have the lid rounded (painted) and then get the reflective trim. The inside is different on the tailight doors, and the remote sensor might be in the reflective trim. Put two cars side by side and look for problems, maybe you can find a wreck or someone parting one out.

Ive done the conversion on my 1995 S and it was a straight-forward swap. Car looks a lot younger from the rear. Highly recommended. Im in the UK so obviously Im not too sure how much the light cost in US. I got the OEM ones to avoid any "gap" problems which the after market ones always present. 
I got a decent discount from my friend at the Mercedes Parts Dept. Cost around $110 each with the exchange rate as it was last year. Now it would probably equate to around $140. Good luck
