SRS + ABS Warning Lights

On my 92 500SEL, both these lights come on when the car starts to move, and stay on until the engine is shut down. What does this mean?

I had the same problem with my 94 S420
its usualy the front left ABS/wheel speed sensor that needs replacing or sometimes needs cleaning from break dust crud and deposits.
with mine when the lights came on the speedometer did not work and the power steering was at half power.

My speedo still works, and, as far as I can tell, so does the pwr steering. it's funny, though, how you say it is most often on the left side. Any particular reason? Does it make sense to replace both?

Don't throw parts at the problem. You need to check the codes. It can be something as simple as a fuse, faulty brake switch, dirty speed sensors, or a faulty speed sensor.

If you don't have access to a scanner start off by checking the fuses and cleaning the front speed sensors.
