I am considering a 1993 400SEL that is two owner car that, per the present owner, has had a single episode of overheating that is unexpalined. The car has 120K on the odometer. I am planning on looking at it and was wondering if: A: Is the mileage a concern on these cars? B: What problems did the 400 series motor have, if any. Are there things I need to specifically watch for in the S class cars. I currently drive a 1990 300E. Any insight would be appreciated as I know very little about this series. Thanks in advance.

Well from experience and i can tell you the AC will eventually go (used water soluable solder) and labor is about 20+ hours so plan on a 3k bill and BOSE AMP goes (mine did) figure $1300+ new or $500 for rebuild and Vacuum Pump has tendency to go. Understand that an alignment and most likely bushings gone in front end...not trying to scare you but i ended up putting over 7K to bring my 1992 back to new. If something goes wrong and it most likely will it will cost you...these were not cheap cars and it's not that anyone can buy one for little money it's "can you afford to maintain the car properly"...however on the plus they are beautiful and well made.

You take good care of your car, looks great (nice rims)...it's great to see these beautiful cars on the road. The W140 are definately something special.
