Major Differences
hey guys, im looking into converting myself from a w124 to a w140. i saw a car today which was debadged and i was told that it was an 1997 s500. how can i tell the difference between that and an s320? i don't know my w140's yet so im not sure. he says its bone stock so it should all be well. How much should a 1997 s500 wiht 87k miles and in mint condition cost anyways? ( sedan, not coupe )

you can tell by looking under the hood. a 320 is a 6 cylinder and looks similar to your 300.
the 500 will have a V8, just make sure the sticker under the hood sais 5.0 and not 4.2. the 500 will have power and heated rear seats and most likely 2 tone leather seats, theis options ware not available on the 320 as far as i know. as far as the value, not sure prices here in Canada are different then the USA. I hope that helps, maybe some of the other guys have more input.
I can only say that you will enjoy the W140,but make sure you are prepaird to pay the price at the pump,Fuel consumption is significantly more.

you telling me....$3.79.99 a gallon for 93 grade in my S i put $50 in the other day and gave me like 17 gallons....not alot for the monies. time to pull out the old pedal pusher!!!

500 will have heated fron seats as well as back seats. And check the motor for 5.0 identification somehwere (4.989 actualy) or something like that.
As for gas prices, forget it, if this car is for daily use, it will choke you soon. It is best used as a a weekend cruiser, unless your company pays for gas it just hurts to pay $75-80 for a tank at $3.00 a gallon.
